Rai Rai Ramen--Taiwanese Snack&Japanese Ramen
Rai
Rai Ramen is located in North Brunswick Franklin Township in North Brunswick,
NJ. The sign of this restaurant is not striking so you have to be careful when
you drive through this zone, or you will just miss it.
From
the name of this restaurant, "Ramen", we can find out that it is a Japanese
Ramen restaurant. However, it used to be a Taiwanese restaurant and it still
serves a lot of Taiwanese food and snack. This is why I include Rai Rai Ramen
in this blog. (PS: the owner is also Chinese)
Taiwan's
best-known snacks are in the night market. They have finger foods, drinks and
sit-down dishes. However, if you are not planning go to Taiwan, you can always
go to some Taiwanese restaurant instead, such as Rai Rai Ramen.
Night Market in Taiwan
Dish
Recommend:
Oyster-filled
Omelet (O-a-chian):
Fresh
oysters are fried with mixture of flour and water, beaten eggs and lettuce.
Before you eat it, a savory sauce will be poured on top of the omelet for
adding flavor.
Pearl
milk tea:
It
is a special drink in Taiwan. Milk tea is mix of black tea and milk. The Pearl
inside is made from little tapioca balls that are boiled in black sugar. The little balls and milk tea is a good
combination. They are serving both cold and hot pearl milk tea.
Stinky
tofu:
It
is made from fermented tofu. As the name mentioned, it has a really strong
odor. When you first see it, you may not want to try it (just like me), since it
is very smelly. However, you have to have courage trying it, and then you will
find out how delicious it is!
Even
though this blog's purpose is finding real Chinese food, I have to recommend
the Japanese Ramen in this restaurant. Just as one of the reviewer said, "the
noodles have a slightly chewy texture, but do not go limp or taste overcooked." You could also order a combo of both Japanese fried rice and ramen.
The
waiter is a highlight of this small restaurant. He is so knowledge that he can
answer any questions about the food. If you don’t know what you want, go ahead
and tell him what you like and he will give you some good advice.
